My name is Julie and I am a 5th year elementary classroom and choral music teacher (though my first 3 years were spent at the middle school level) outside of Philadelphia, PA. I just graduated from Boston University with my Masters Degree in Music Education. I tell myself and others every day that I can’t believe I get paid to do this!

The purpose of this blog is to share my thoughts and experiences about teaching music at the elementary level, as well as some useful resources in the music education field.

Looking forward to connecting!

  1. Hi Julie,

My name is Sam Rao and I am CEO and Co-Founder of Practicia.com, the world’s first comprehensive music practice management system that enables teachers to engage students in practice in a revolutionary new way. I recently came across your blog and appreciate all the wonderful content you have created for your readers. We would love to discuss how we might create a mutually beneficial relationship with you that enables both of us to widen our reach and viewership. I was wondering if you might have a few minutes to speak with me on phone about possibilities for cross promotion. I would really appreciate that. Thank you so much and look forward the hearing from you!

Sam Rao (CEO and Co-Founder) brings a long and diverse background in music performance, pedagogy, and entrepreneurship to PRACTICIA. Trained at Oberlin Conservatory as a composer and conductor, Sam continued studies with David Zinman and Jorma Panula as a full fellowship conducting student at the Aspen Music Festival. In 2003, Sam founded the Aurora School of Music in Ohio and within 4 short years, grew it into one of the largest music schools in Ohio, with 600 students in attendance, 30 teachers and a full-fledged music program. Wanting to broaden his horizons, Sam exited the Aurora School and went back to school to complete an MBA from the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Sam is passionately committed to leveraging technology to make the study and practice of music as engaging as possible. When not working on PRATICIA, Sam enjoys spending time with his daughter Sophia and developing her vocal and dramatic talent s in addition to composing, stepping in for ailing and indisposed conductors, and learning jazz piano!
